Here is New Testament passage that shows that the Septuagint was the version of the Scriptures used by the early church and the Holy Spirit. The Septuagint version I am using is the Lexham English Septuagint 2nd Edition, which is available in print or as part of Logos Bible Software. Occasionally I also use the Brenton translation of the LXX for insight into difficult passages.

35 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES; I WILL UTTER THINGS HIDDEN SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.” Matthew 13:35 (NASB95) |
2 I will open [anoigo] my mouth [stoma] in parables [parabole]. I will voice [phtheggomai] riddles [problema] from the beginning [arche]. Psalm 77:2 (LES2) |
2 I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, Psalm 78:2 (NASB95) |
The first part of Matthew’s quote agrees with the LXX. The second part is a paraphrase. |
