New Testament Use of the Septuagint – Romans 9:17

Here is New Testament passage that shows that the Septuagint was the version of the Scriptures used by the early church and the Holy Spirit. The Septuagint version I am using is the Lexham English Septuagint 2nd Edition, which is available in print or as part of Logos Bible Software. Occasionally I also use the Brenton translation of the LXX for insight into difficult passages.

17 For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose [houtos] I have raised you up [exegeiro], that I may show [endeiknumi] My power [dunamis] in you, and that My name [onoma] may be declared [diangelo] in [en] all [pas] the earth [ge].” Romans 9:17 (NKJV)

16 And for this [houtos] purpose [eneka] you have been preserved [diatereo], in order that [hopos] I may display [endeiknumi] my power [ischus] in you and in order that [hopos] my name [onoma] might be proclaimed [diangelo] throughout [en] all [pas] the earth [ge]. Exodus 9:16 (LES2)

16 But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth. Exodus 9:16 (NKJV)

Although Paul’s quote contains many of the same Greek words as the LXX, I will give this one to the MT.
