The Alternative to Biblical Cosmology Is Unthinkable!

If the Bible’s description of the earth is not the true, the alternative is unthinkable for a Christian. It would mean that the Bible is not inspired by God after all.

Paul wrote that every word of Scripture is inspired by God.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV)

This affirmation is repeated by our Lord Jesus himself.

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. John 17:17 (NKJV)

In the verse from Second Timothy above, Paul added that all scripture is profitable for doctrine. This means Genesis Chapter One can and should be used to establish the doctrine of the shape of the earth.

When well-meaning Christians, who put their trust in NASA instead of God, contend that Genesis was never intended by God to be a truthful description of the heavens and earth, it is a contradiction of this principle. When interpreters insist that Genesis is mere poetry, not reality, they accuse God of misleading us, which, of course, is satanic. God always uses poetry and metaphors to beautify and clarify rather than obscure or confuse.

But if we grant NASA believers a pass on claiming that Genesis Chapter One is poetic and not to be interpreted as literally true, then it raises the question “Is all poetry to be interpreted this way, including the Psalms?” The next question that arises is, “What parts of Genesis are true, then, and who gets to decide? Is the creation of Adam and Eve literally true? The story of Cain and Abel? The flood? Abraham? The Exodus?” When we feel free to nullify the truthfulness of one verse, passage, or chapter, the domino effect is staggering. We end up where many mainline denominations are today, lost at sea in a storm having no anchor, nothing solid upon which to base our faith.

Once we reject one part of God’s Word for whatever reason, the gate is open to reject any and all of it.

Those who reject Genesis Chapter One’s description of creation tell the watching world that the Bible cannot be believed or trusted.

Those who object to biblical cosmology on the grounds that it makes the Bible and the gospel look ridiculous have overlooked that refusing to believe the truthfulness of Genesis Chapter One refutes the gospel because it undermines the credibility of the entire Bible.

The shocking truth is that, if we throw out Genesis Chapter One, we must toss the Word of God in its entirety, which is an unthinkable alternative.

Lord, I ask you to open eyes, ears, and hearts to the truth of your Word. Deliver us from the idolatry of believing in a false cosmology instead of your Word. Forgive us for thinking we can reject parts of your Word to suit us. Amen.

The Day the Sun Stood Still

There was a day long ago when the sun stood still, but time did not. It was a most unusual day that lasted much longer than other days. It was the day that Joshua commanded the sun not to go down until the battle was finished.

Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, “O sun, stand still at Gibeon, And O moon in the valley of Aijalon.” 13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. Joshua 10:12–13 (NASB95)

I think it is safe to say that most people will regard this account as mythical, even some who say they believe the Bible. They likely will assume that either it did not happen at all or whatever did take place was misinterpreted by a primitive pre-scientific people who did not yet realize that the sun’s apparent motion in the sky is caused by the earth’s approximate rotation speed at that latitude of 875 mph. Rather than be embarrassed by having to admit the Bible is wrong on this point, heliocentric Christians will try to explain things some other way.

So why did the Holy Spirit have Moses write about this day in the Bible? I am assuming my reader agrees that every word of the Bible was inspired by God. (2 Timothy 3:16) Here are a few possible reasons that come to mind.

It illustrated God’s total control over his creation, showing that he is not the far-away disinterested God of the Deists.
It showed that God allows humans to command nature at times when it is in agreement with his will, as when Jesus stilled the stormy sea.
It demonstrated that God was assisting Joshua and the Israelites to conquer Canaan.
In his foreknowledge, God knew it could be used later to refute the heliocentric lie.

This passage completely contradicts heliocentrism, if we believe the Bible is 100% true.

Heliocentrism holds that the apparent motion of the sun and moon are actually caused by the rotation of the earth. This contradicts the Bible’s claim that the sun runs a circuit over the earth and its rising and setting are due to visual perspective. (Psalm 19:6)

One can, no doubt, find information online that claims to refute the above video’s assertion, which requires us to choose which “authority” to believe. Ultimately, this forces us to decide whether it’s God or men. We know that men lie, but God never does. (Romans 3:4)

Since our chosen text, Joshua 10:12-13, clearly says the sun and moon stood still, those who accept the presupposition that the earth rotates on an imaginary axis must come up with some kind of alternate solution. Here are two possibilities.

The earth stopped rotating. This somewhat fits the heliocentric model, at least with respect to the sun. However, it would require the 1000 mph spin of the earth at the equator to come to a dramatic stop, setting off enormous tidal waves and earthquakes and throwing people and animals into whatever remained anchored to the ground, killing them instantly. In addition, although this solution would solve the problem of the sun appearing to stand still, it would not explain the stillness of the moon, for it is said to revolve around the earth. Therefore, not only would the earth to stop its rotation, the moon would have to cease orbiting the earth. Since this contradicts the clear meaning of the text and seems unnecessarily complex, I will throw this one out.
God can do anything. This is what people have said to me after I point out the contradictions that accompany the first “solution.” I believe this is an ill-disguised attempt to hide from the truth. While it is generally true that God can do anything, and we can agree that God need not explain how he does something, one thing God cannot and will not do is lie. Since the Bible says that the sun and moon stopped moving for several hours, that must be exactly what happened. Saying that God can do anything does not mean that the text ceases to mean what it says. Therefore this is no solution at all, which leave us with the simplest explanation – that
it happened exactly how the Bible said it did, proving that heliocentrism is a lie.

Martin Luther, a contemporary of Copernicus, was a principal leader in what is called the Protestant Reformation, in which one of the rallying cries was “sola scriptura,” meaning that the Bible is the highest standard for truth in all matters. He refuted the astronomer’s claim simply by referencing the above quoted passage from Joshua, regarding which he made the following statement.

In the midst of the cataclysmic upheaval called the Protestant Reformation, which rearranged nations and delivered people from the bondage of Roman Catholic doctrine, the devil instituted his own religious “counter reformation” spearheaded by the Jesuit order. Additionally, the scientific community underwent its own revolution, which Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Newton, and others spearheaded. These men, unlike Luther, had a much lower regard for Scripture, if any at all.

Francis Bacon popularized the “two books” metaphor, saying that God wrote Scripture to reveal His will, and the book of nature to reveal His works and power. He warned against “unwisely mingling” them by using biblical texts to “dictate” natural philosophy. He advocated studying both, but keeping their domains separate. This sounds eerily like the modern argument of separation of church and state. When a trick works, Satan reuses it.

Satan and godless men refuse to acknowledge God’s sovereignty over all truth. He claims to “own” science, education, media, and government. God can have Sunday school.

Sadly, we Christians bought the lie and currently believe that moral truth and “the gospel” are the only things concerning which we need to be concerned, not realizing that God’s truth in the Scriptures extends to every area, including cosmology. It should be clear to us that such an argument as Bacon’s justifies rejecting as untrue anything in the Bible that does not agree with so-called science.

This is exactly what German theologians did a couple of centuries later when they eliminated the miraculous from the Bible to try to sift down to the “historical” Jesus.

The separation of “religious” truth from physical reality is something with which the biblical authors were unfamiliar.

For them, and us, all truth is God’s truth. The Bible does not pretend only to speak about moral and metaphysical matters. Is Jesus’ bodily resurrection a metaphysical metaphor or did it actually happen? It cannot be explained scientifically, but the Bible says it took place. If we can reject what the Bible says about the sun and moon, we can reject whatever we like, including the resurrection. It is definitely a “slippery slope.”

Joshua’s command to the sun and moon spoken so long ago challenges our loyalty to God’s Word today.

Oh, that modern Christians regarded the Bible with as much reverence as did the Reformers! How I wish that we would esteem the Holy Scriptures more than what goes for science! Let us repent, if we have bowed our knee to that false god. Let us choose to honor the Lord and his Word rather than seek the world’s approval.

Mind Numbing Deception

The Bible tells us that deception and sin can eventually destroy our ability to think critically. Some call this brainwashing. Paul called it becoming a fool.

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, Romans 1:21–22 (NASB95)

The root of deception is the denial of the truth of God’s Word. Anything we believe that is contrary to biblical truth numbs the mind and corrupts our ability to think.

Below is a quote by Martin Luther, who faced enormous levels of deception and contradiction in his day from the Roman Catholic Church and the embryonic stage of the heliocentric deception. Writing about deception in general, he said:

“For such lies and errors numb the mind and the senses, so that one can no longer distinguish truth from falsehood, but instead accepts everything as good that the devil spreads through his prophets. Therefore, it is necessary that we hold fast to the clear Word of God and not allow ourselves to be led astray by human dreams and visions. For where the Scripture is abandoned, there follows nothing but confusion, blindness, and spiritual death.”

The proliferation of such deception has increased by stages over the centuries to the point where now society in general has embraced destructive lies on a terrifying scale.

Even many Christians, who acknowledge the Bible is true, have been profoundly impacted by some of the most foundational lies of the devil.

One such foundational error is heliocentrism.

Herbert Butterfield, a British historian, argued that the Scientific Revolution—sparked by Nicolaus Copernicus’s heliocentric theory in De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (1543)—had a greater historical impact than the Renaissance. In his 1949 book The Origins of Modern Science, he wrote that it “outshines everything since the rise of Christianity and reduces the Renaissance and Reformation to the rank of mere episodes, mere internal displacements within the system of medieval Christendom.” (Grok)

Sigmund Freud made the connection between Copernican heliocentrism and what he called the “shattering [of] anthropocentric illusions” central to traditional Christian cosmology, in which the Earth was God’s privileged creation at the universe’s heart, thus undermining faith’s foundation and paving the way for later “death of God” theology. (Grok) The Copernican Principle, as it eventually came to be called, is the scientific rejection of “cosmic favoritism.” Earth is just one ordinary planet in an ordinary galaxy in a vast, average universe.

The Copernican Principle means that mankind is insignificant in relationship to the grand scope of universe, or, perhaps, multiverse, if string theory is accepted. The Bible teaches that man and woman were the crowning touches of his creation, for whom the earth was made as a habitation, which imparts to us great significance.

It is not hard to see how heliocentrism and the Copernican Principle gave rise to Darwin’s theory of biological evolution and later the Big Bang Theory of cosmic evolution. Both of these unproven and unprovable theories defy what is written in the Bible. For the Christian, this by itself is grounds for immediate rejection as utter falsehood.

Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark. Isaiah 8:20 (NLT)

Nevertheless, Satan has used these lies to drive countless people away from God and into an eternity of loss, pain, and sorrow, missing out on what could have been theirs had they believed God and accepted the promises of the gospel. Satan is miserable, and he loves company.

Martin Luther, contemporary of Copernicus, recognized this evil for what it was very early. In a conversation which was written down, he said:

“There was mention of a certain new astrologer [astronomer] who wanted to prove that the earth moves and not the sky, the sun, and the moon. This would be as if somebody were riding on a cart or in a ship and imagined that he was standing still while the earth and the trees were moving. [Exactly Einstein’s point of view in his faux theory of special relativity.]

‘So it goes now. Whoever wants to be clever must agree with nothing that others esteem. He must do something of his own. This is what that fellow does who wishes to turn the whole of astronomy upside down. Even in these things that are thrown into disorder I believe the Holy Scriptures, for Joshua commanded the sun to stand still and not the earth.’”

Heliocentrism contradicts God’s truth revealed in Scripture and numbs the mind to prevent our correctly perceiving reality.

The brainwashing convinces us to ignore the input of our senses and the results of critical thinking and to accept that which defies reason and contradicts what we observe. A recent example with which we are all familiar is the craziness that accompanies transgenderism. We were asked (forced) to recognize multiple genders even though we know and observe that there are only male and female. Those who maintained some common sense and had some not so common courage declined.

Consider that heliocentrism requires us to contradict the input from our senses which tell us that the earth does not move. We are told to believe that we are rotating at an astounding 1040 mph at the equator, or about 750 mph at the latitude where I live. In addition, we are told that we revolve around the sun at in incredible speed of 66,600 mph. The combination of these two speeds and corresponding force vectors would require us to experience a continual change of acceleration, since the spin of the earth both adds to and subtracts from the speed of our revolution each 24 hours.

On top of those two speeds, we are told that we our entire solar system is galloping through the Milky Way galaxy at a mind-numbing speed of around 500,000 mph. But wait! There is more! The galaxy is moving at 1 to 2 million miles per hour (It seems to change!) away from the epicenter of the Big Bang explosion! Imagine. We are traveling in four directions at once at incomprehensible speeds, but we do not feel any of it. If you believe that, you have been brainwashed.

And if the earth is rotating at 1040 mph at the equator, how is it that we do not feel super-hurricane like winds? We are told it is because the earth’s atmosphere rotates, too. If that is the case, why do we feel air currents traveling in multiple directions. Why do we have wind currents such as the jet stream, which independently travels their routes?

And if the earth is rotating, how do airplanes land on the ground that is moving beneath them?

And if the earth is curved, as heliocentrists tell us, why do airplanes fly straight and level according to their gyroscopes?

If the earth were a globe, airplanes would be constantly descending to avoid flying off into “outer space.”

And if the earth is speeding through the universe at 2 million miles per hour, why have the stars remained in the same positions? Why are we able to photograph the stars making concentric circles around Polaris?

The fact of the matter is that none of these things make any sense at all to the rational mind, but we have been taught to accept what the experts tell us, rather than to think critically.

Our indoctrination begins at a young age, when all our adult authority figures tell us that we live on a globe zooming through space. Over our lifetimes, we are shown endless images of this globe. We have been tantalized by space movies that have created in us a desire to explore beyond the limitations of this earth, the habitation God assigned to us. We are told that the earth is dying and our hope is somewhere “out there,” perhaps Mars. All of this is lie, but we bought it hook, line, and sinker.

How shall we recover from such deception? The Word of God can set us free, if we believe, receive, and act upon it.

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:31–32 (NASB95)

Lies enslave. The truth sets us free.

If we accept the cosmology taught in the Bible, it will loose us from Satan’s web of deception. We will be able to see creation’s wonder and beauty with new eyes! When we look up, we will understand that God’s throne rests atop the dome of the firmament, just as the Bible says.

One day, God will roll back the firmament like a scroll to reveal our glorious Lord Jesus to the entire earth at once, something that can only happen on the earth the Bible describes.

Are We Smarter than Jesus?

I feel sure that none of my Christian friends would ever claim to be smarter than Jesus; however, we sometimes act and speak as if we think so.

One of the greatest lies of our time is that the highest and most certain form of knowledge comes from the scientific realm.

Because we have probed some of the mysteries of biology and physics and have more advanced technologies, we may believe that we are smarter than our ancestors, some of whom we might describe as being “pre-scientific.” To our great loss, we may denigrate other forms of knowledge and wisdom given to us by God, even that found in the Bible.

Jesus taught that God’s Word is absolute truth, of which he is the embodiment.

Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. John 17:17 (NASB95)

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6 (NASB95)

The Bible warns us to never add to or subtract from God’s Word. (Deuteronomy 4:2, Proverbs 30:6, and Revelation 22:18-19)

Those who reject God’s Word in favor of some other source of knowledge or “truth” are guilty of suppressing God’s truth, which dishonors the Creator and hides his glory.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. God’s wrath in the form of a descent into lust and perversion always follows the suppression of truth about his creation and his person. I believe that is where we are today as a direct result of our suppressing God’s truth about creation. We have abandoned the Genesis Chapter One account of creation and cosmology in favor of modern atheistic astrophysics.

All creation testifies to the glory of God, if it is rightly understood.

I have more insight than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation. 100 I understand more than the aged, Because I have observed Your precepts. Psalm 119:99–100 (NASB95)

If we measure all other forms of supposed truth against the benchmark of God’s Word, we will have more understanding than those who abandon God’s Word because they think other sources of knowledge are more reliable.

As a result of elevating supposed scientific knowledge and men’s theories above God’s Word, many interpret the opening chapter of Genesis as a poetic phenomenological description of origins which God never intended for us to regard as factual. But has God authorized us to do that? Is there anywhere in the Bible that we are plainly told that we should interpret Genesis metaphorically?

These same Christian friends who feel compelled to interpret Genesis Chapter One phenomenologically would undoubtedly affirm that Jesus is the eternal Logos (Word) who became flesh through his miraculous conception in Mary’s womb by the Holy Spirit. They would also stand behind John’s claim that Jesus, as the pre-incarnate eternal Logos, created all things.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. John 1:1–3 (NASB95)

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 (NASB95)

As the incarnate eternal Logos (Word) walking upon the earth, Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit without measure. He had more wisdom and understanding than any person who ever lived. Being the very embodiment of God’s Word of truth, he had and has the greatest understanding of its meaning. After all, the author of a book knows better what he intended to say than any reader.

Now here is where it gets very interesting. When Jesus walked on the earth, he understood Genesis to be literally true.

In fact, he taught his disciples that God’s Word cannot be “broken.” (John 10:35) The Greek word “luo” means to loose, untie, or release. Bible scholars extend that meaning to include to annul, break, or destroy. In other words, we cannot release God’s words from the original meaning and interpret them any way we like. God’s Word carries the force of what it actually says, rather than what we might wish it said.

Therefore, are we not guilty of “breaking” God’s Word if we interpret Genesis Chapter One as less than factually true?

In Matthew 19:4-6, Jesus taught that Adam and Eve were created male and female “at the beginning” , a direct quote from Genesis 1:27.

And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? Matthew 19:4–5 (NKJV)

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them...God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.Genesis 1:27, 31 (NKJV)

Jesus believed and knew Adam and Eve were and are real people whom God (he) created on the sixth day of creation. Mark 10:6 also puts their creation at the “beginning,” thus eliminating old earth accommodations to evolutionary dogma and affirming the six-days of creation. Jesus also believed that Abel was an historical figure. The same is true of Noah, Moses, and Jonah. Jesus does not allow us to relegate any of them to allegory or myth.

Neither do we have permission to relegate the six days of creation to mere poetry that is not scientifically and factually true.

The only reason people began to do this is because we fell for the lie that scientific knowledge is more accurate and reliable than God’s Word. We believed the ungodly occult theory that the earth rotates and revolves around the sun. We accepted anti-biblical theories of evolution and the Big Bang that are required if we accept heliocentrism. Now, after 500 years, the heliocentric lie and Newtonian astrophysics seem more reasonable than the truth of God’s Word. We are victims of the greatest indoctrination scheme of all time, which is designed to hide the truth about creation and obscure God’s glory.

The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Psalm 19:1 (NKJV)

Should we not heed the warning of John Calvin, who was Copernicus’ contemporary?

Is it not time for the church to repent of idolizing men’s words above God’s and to admit that we are not smarter than Jesus?

The Copernican Captivity of the Church

Any lie we believe brings us into captivity to some degree, and the truth is what sets us free.

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:31–32 (NASB95)

God’s Word of truth in the Bible is our written source and guarantee of freedom. The Holy Spirit, also called the Spirit of truth (John 16:13), is the one who reveals God’s Word to us. This combination of revelation from the Holy Spirit and the infallible written Word has the ability to break the power of Satan’s lies. Since this is true, it is only logical that Satan will always try to separate us from God’s Word and truth in some way or another. Sometimes he contradicts it outright, as he did with Eve in the garden when he told her she would not die because of disobeying God’s command. Other times, especially with those of us who say we are devoted to the scriptures, he is more diabolically clever.

Satan entices us to deny what God plainly says without compromising our integrity by simply reinterpreting the Bible to suit us.

This sinister ploy is how he duped a great percentage of the church into rejecting the literal truth of Genesis Chapter One.

We dare not underestimate the pull in all of us to be smarter than God.

The Scientific Revolution of the 1600’s was an offshoot of the Renaissance, which was a return to non-biblical classical thinking. One of the driving forces behind this movement was a determination to discover scientific truths without being “hemmed in” by what the Bible teaches. Copernicus said it like this.

In other words, Copernicus judged that believing in the literal truth of Genesis Chapter One and other relevant scriptures now constitutes “wresting” them to suit us. Many, if not most, of us in the church have adopted Copernicus’ position based on theories proposed by modern astrophysics.

Martin Luther, a contemporary of Copernicus, utterly condemned that man’s theories as heresy because he upheld the Reformation ideal of sola scriptura. He considered that the Bible is the ultimate source of truth, even when it comes to science. In the following quote, he refers to Joshua 10:12-13.

John Calvin, another contemporary of Copernicus, challenged that man’s authority to negate the scriptures.

What was so clear to these reformers who accepted the authority of Bible has been lost to the modern church when it comes to cosmology.

Today we so firmly accept the heliocentric system that we now demand the Bible to conform to it. We reinterpret Genesis Chapter One to be mere poetry with no scientific accuracy. Is it any wonder that atheist laugh at us.

If a lawyer discovers that a witness is guilty of fabricating a story to make his testimony more palatable, that witness loses all credibility.

If the Bible got creation wrong, why on earth should anyone believe anything else it says?

Since admitting that I believe in the literal accuracy of Genesis, I have been accused of not knowing how to properly read or understand the Bible. I have been teaching the Bible for 54 years, yet suddenly I do not know how to interpret scripture! The author of Genesis believed in its literal accuracy, however. That puts me in pretty good company.

Napoleon Bonaparte is reputed to have said:

Whether he actually is the source of this saying or not is insignificant to my point. The statement is true. People believe the most outlandish things if so-called experts tell them it is the truth. This was on display during the Covid crisis.

God created us to believe his Words. Satan takes advantage of our inherent need to believe. He knows that we are relatively simple beings who can be easily duped.

If we do not adhere to the Words of God in the Bible, we will fall for most anything.

When Satan tempted our Lord at the beginning of his public ministry, Jesus always defeated the devil by quoting scripture. This is our most reliable defense. Paul called this weapon the “sword of the Spirit.” (Ephesians 6:17) If we abandon God’s Word as our ultimate source of truth, we will always go into captivity.

The Scientific Revolution duped the church by telling us that the Bible is good for spiritual and moral truth, but not for science, and we believed it!

Not immediately, though, but Satan knows that he doesn’t have to fool everyone right away. He understands that a lie can become firmly entrenched in just one generation. After the initial truth contenders die off, the younger generation, which has been told that the lie is the truth by the “expert” testimony of scientists, is prone to fall for the new way of seeing things. And that is exactly what happened.

For the last five hundred years we have endured the Copernican captivity of the Church.

Many Bible-believing Christians will fight “tooth and nail” to preserve the heliocentric system while at the same time insisting that they believe the Bible 100%. Both cannot be true at the same time. We cannot destroy the literal truth of Genesis One and maintain the literal truth of the resurrection. It is a logical impossibility. Either both are true, or both can be dismissed. Satan knows this, but many Christians do not.

Atheists understand that if we do not even believe Genesis is true, our testimony of Christ’s resurrection crumbles.

It is time for the church to repent of this duplicity and forsake its worship of the globe, space travel, and the other lies that were spawned from the heliocentric occult religion that denies the existence of the firmament and makes the sun the “super power” of the cosmos instead of the God of the Bible. It is time for the church to cast aside its fear of being called foolish by a world that rejects God’s truth. It is time for the church to reclaim its lost heritage of “Sola Scriptura.” It is way overdue for us to return to believing the literal truth of Genesis Chapter One.

Are These the Days of Elijah?

A popular Christian song a few years ago was titled “Days of Elijah.” It focused on the coming of the Lord, a worthy and relevant topic. However, if these are indeed the days of Elijah, God is calling us to do what Elijah did – to boldly confront idolatry and challenge people to choose between serving God and the devil.

Baal worship was prevalent in Elijah’s day and still exists, but an even bigger and more ubiquitous idol confronting the church in our time is the false god of science.

In Daniel’s day, king Nebuchadnezzar erected a giant image of himself and commanded all his subjects to worship it in a grand display of devotion, unity, pomp, and ceremony. Any who refused was condemned to death. We know the story of three brave young men who chose to endure the king’s wrath rather than betray the one true God. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego courageously stood against enormous peer pressure and the threat of imminent death.

We are faced with a similar situation today, but now the golden idol is called science. Let us consider how we Christians have prostrated ourselves to this idol, perhaps unwittingly.

I think most of my Christian readers will agree that God’s Word in the Bible is true. If we are evangelicals, Sola Scriptura is a motto from the Reformation with which we are familiar. We believe that the scriptures are infallibly accurate and true as found in the original autographs and are authoritative regarding faith and practice. Jesus taught that God’s Word cannot be broken. (John 10:35)

What the Bible says should not be contradicted or changed. It stands against all competitors claiming to be the truth.

Jesus condemned the Pharisees for altering the Word of God to suit their purposes.

He was also saying to them, “You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. Mark 7:9 (NASB95)

Altering the clear meaning of God’s Word to make it compatible with an external version of truth is a favorite trick of religious people who do not take God’s words seriously. Here Jesus made it plain that changing the meaning of a text is the equivalent of invalidating or rejecting it.

Whenever we reinterpret God’s Word to make it conform to a tradition or some other standard of truth, even if it is “scientific,” we are in error.

We now call the time when the Old and New Testaments were written as pre-scientific. Science emerged as a false god in the Renaissance when man determined that he is the measure of all things, not God and certainly not the Bible.

Highly esteemed scientists embarked on the scintillating quest of discovering the truths of the universe without being limited by what the Bible says.

This may have seemed like a new idea, but it is as old as humanity. This quest is the same one that Adam and Eve set out on in the garden. They likewise did not want to rely on God for information. They wanted to figure out things for themselves. This desire to gain knowledge without God’s help is rooted in pride and extremely appealing to us. It is the lure of Satan that has taken down multitudes and still deceives the nations, even those who proclaim allegiance to Jesus.

Any time we choose to dismiss the obvious meaning of Scripture in order to accommodate it to the claims of science, we have bowed the knee to a false god.

Here is a relevant example. Genesis Chapter One gives us God’s explanation of how he created the heavens and earth. In this section of the Bible we are told the sequence of creation and how long it took. The authors of the Bible believed this to be literally true, and God’s people thought the same for millennia. But when Renaissance scientists proclaimed that the Bible is not true after all, a gradual transition began to occur. Heliocentrism met with strong resistance at first from such notables as Luther and Calvin, but over time, as these defenders of orthodoxy died out and as the new theories were taught to the young, this new way of viewing the universe ascended to being considered true, not just a theory. This put the church into a crisis of faith.

Would God’s people hold to the traditional and obvious meaning of Genesis Chapter One, or would we reinterpret those verses to accommodate to a new standard of truth called science. I think you know the answer.

For the last five hundred years or so the Word of God regarding the creation and shape of the earth and heavens has been held captive by the false god of science. In a cunning stroke of evil genius, Satan attacked the foundation of truth, the Scriptures, by undermining our faith in the very first chapter.

It is no wonder that so many have chosen to reject God altogether because he cannot be found in the Big Bang universe. Only the true version of things gives glory to God.

The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Psalm 19:1 (NKJV)

Today God is peeling back layers of deception and restoring people’s confidence that Genesis Chapter One is literally true and accurate.

Today people are standing up to the monolithic giant in the land called science, just as Elijah stood against the prophets of Baal.

It takes courage to make a stand for God’s truth just as it did for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. May God make us bold to proclaim our loyalty both to Jesus and his words, which includes Genesis Chapter One!

For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. Luke 9:26 (NASB95)

The World’s Most Prolific Idol?

What is the world’s most prolific idol? The answer may surprise you. The Bible warns us not to make an image of anything in the heavens or on earth.

“You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 5 “You shall not worship them or serve them... Exodus 20:4–5a (NASB95)

Today photographs abound, but these probably do not fit the definition of an idol, even though they are images. Idols inspire worship, which includes service to these images and what they represent. I therefore extend the definition to include any image that leads us astray from God and his truth found in the Bible. (Matthew 24:24, Deuteronomy 13:5) Jesus is truth personified (John 14:6). His Word, the Bible, is completely true. Therefore, any image that contradicts God’s Word is an idol.

When we believe and serve a false image about God and his creation, it is a form of idolatry.

What then exists today in great numbers that flatly contradicts scripture and detracts from God’s glory regarding creation? The globe fits that definition perfectly.

The globe earth, which is integral to the Copernican – Newtonian model of the universe, is an outright lie that is designed by Satan to cast doubt upon all of the Bible and lead people to conclude that there is no God at all.

The best place to undermine all of Scripture is in the first chapter of Genesis.

I have written in detail elsewhere about what some call heliosorcery, an occult form of sun worship which portrays the earth being in abject slavery to Helios (Satan), along with other so-called planets (wanderers) named after pagan gods. This system depends upon an unproven force that supposedly attracts all objects to each other called gravity, which is said to hold the universe together, thereby replacing God’s Son as the One who does that. (Colossians 1:17)

Little children are taught that the globe idol represents reality, which outright contradicts Genesis Chapter One.

Those who grow up believing this model of the universe find themselves as adults unable to accept the simple teaching of Genesis about creation.

Instead we mangle the scriptures (called eisegesis) to try to make them coexist with our false cosmological model that includes our beloved spinning water ball careening through an infinite and scary “universe” going to who knows where at breakneck speed in multiple directions at once.

Rather than accept that we live on an stationary, stable earth that is the center of God’s creation, something our senses tell us is true, we choose to believe in the incredible Big Bang ever-expanding universe, in which the globe earth is a fragile and insignificant dot. Sadly, many sincere Christians insist that the Copernican model of the universe glorifies God. But how can anything that contradicts his Word of truth glorify him? It is impossible and pure self-deception.

Humanity persists in the unattainable quest of leaving the earth on a journey into outer darkness, not believing that God created an impenetrable barrier called the firmament on the second day of creation in which he placed the heavenly lights and above which is God’s throne. Those in Babel failed to break into heaven, and neither will we. Satan has once again fooled us into joining his attempt to dethrone God.

I realize that, if you are not familiar with the claims I am making in this article, all this will seem quite fantastical and downright idiotic.

But have you considered that to believe in the globe is to disbelieve Genesis?

I have found that often people are unwilling to even consider that Genesis is literally true because we have been so brainwashed to think that such a belief is backwards, pre-scientific, and a conspiracy theory, and no one wants that label!

But denying the truth of Genesis is to call God a liar, a scary proposition.

I would rather say that almost everyone in the world is lying or deceived into believing a lie.

May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written, “THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS, AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED.” Romans 3:4 (NASB95)

Jesus said that the scriptures cannot be broken. (John 10:35) This means that the author of scripture says that every single word of the Bible is completely true and reliable.

Are we willing to contradict Jesus just to please those who serve the false religion of scientism? Is our motto “sola scriptura” or “sola sciencia?”

However, once a person sees the truth of Genesis Chapter One, the Bible comes alive in a new way. We discover that God’s Word is true even about cosmology! Once we know the truth, wouldn’t it be a sin to keep quiet about it? Shouldn’t we be willing to endure the scorn of the world to be loyal to Jesus and his Word? (Luke 9:26) God’s word is true. The globe is a lying idol. It is time for it to be smashed and the high place of heliocentrism torn down!

And now you have heard the truth. You no longer can claim ignorance. What are you going to do about it?

Time to Tear Down the “High Place” of Heliocentrism

I believe we are in a time of reformation. God is exposing ways in which we followers of Christ have made accommodations to paganism so that we can repent.

High Places

When the Israelites conquered the land God promised to give them, he commanded them to destroy all forms of pagan worship to protect the people from their deceptive allure.

Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When you cross over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, ⁵² then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their figured stones, and destroy all their molten images and demolish all their high places; Numbers 33:51–52 (NASB95)

High places were usually elevated locations where various forms of pagan worship took place. Elevation made people feel closer to God, whose throne is above the firmament. That is why he is often called the Most High. Prior to the construction of the temple of Solomon, God allowed himself to be worshiped at such high places. It was a traditional way to worship with which the people were quite familiar and comfortable.This was genuine worship of the true God, but was not meant to last beyond the building of the temple.

Sadly, the people grew so attached to these forbidden places that they refused to renounce them after the Temple was constructed.

The people were still sacrificing on the high places, because there was no house built for the name of the LORD until those days. 1 Kings 3:2 (NASB95)

The Temple alone was designated as the God’s authorized place of worship and sacrifice.

But you shall seek the LORD at the place which the LORD your God will choose from all your tribes, to establish His name there for His dwelling, and there you shall come. 6 “There you shall bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the contribution of your hand, your votive offerings, your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock. 7 “There also you and your households shall eat before the LORD your God, and rejoice in all your undertakings in which the LORD your God has blessed you. 8 “You shall not do at all what we are doing here today, every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes; Deuteronomy 12:5–8 (NASB95)

Worshiping God is a good thing, but to disobey him by doing so at high places instead of the temple was a sin. Solomon dedicated the temple in grand fashion, but it did not take long for him to veer off course. David’s son unwisely and disobediently married foreign (non-Israelite and pagan) wives, who turned his heart away from an exclusive devotion to Yahweh. He consequently built unauthorized high places used to worship other gods. This was doubly evil.

The high places which were before Jerusalem, which were on the right of the mount of destruction which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the sons of Ammon, the king defiled. 2 Kings 23:13 (NASB95)

It is difficult for us to understand how someone so wise could do such a thing, but such is the allure and deception of sin. Even though very few of us feel a pull toward bowing down before a statue or other idol, we should not assume that we are immune to idolatry.

Today we have other forms of idolatry that are quite pervasive and highly esteemed by God’s people.

God is jealous for our exclusive devotion (James 4:5) and warned Israel that he would punish them unless they removed the high places. (Psalm 78:58-59, Leviticus 26:30) Over the years, evil kings of Israel and Judah were noted for their worship of false gods and devotion to the high places. Even many of the so-called “good” kings of Judah, who loved God, failed to get rid of the high places. For example, Jehoshaphat, a godly man in many ways, was such a ruler.

He walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, doing right in the sight of the LORD. However, the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense on the high places. 1 Kings 22:43 (NASB95)

Why would otherwise devoted servants of God accommodate evil in this way? Were they ignorant? Did they view this transgression as a minor thing? Were they intimidated by the people who were greatly devoted to such unauthorized worship? We can only guess. Perhaps it was all of the above.

The Bible notes three kings who more fully obeyed God by eliminating the high places: Asa, Hezekiah, and Josiah. These men had the courage to oppose high-place-loving citizens in order to please God.

God is looking for wholehearted devotion from his people. Our Lord does not want us to accommodate anything that tends to corrupt that devotion.

Instead of looking for some sort of physical idol, today we should think in terms of how we may have allowed our hearts to become enamored with the ways of the world, which are hostile to the ways of God. (James 4:4-5)

Anything that the world loves should be immediately suspect in our eyes.

The people of the world are devoted to that which is hostile to God because they are of the “flesh,” which bows down to the sinful pull of the old Adamic nature.

because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:7–8 (NASB95)

All of us who have been born again, although we were recreated in the spirit, still have a connection to the flesh, as long as we live in these mortal bodies.

It is easy for us to be swayed into loving what the world loves, unless we have our guard up, understand the truth, and resist the pull. This is a very real danger.

Paul wrote…

But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:3 (NASB95)

So what does this have to do with cosmology?

The High Place of Heliocentrism

For the first 5500 years or so after creation, using Bible chronology, most people believed the Bible’s version of cosmology, which looked something like the diagram on the right. Most cultures around the world had their version of the Hebrew concept. The ancient pagan Greeks began to develop the globe version of the earth. They did not have the Bible from which to gain understanding.
Christians up until the time of Copernicus had a geocentric view of the heavens and earth as described in Genesis Chapter One. Then came an astronomical upheaval.

Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton led what has been called the scientific revolution that changed the way people look at the cosmos and, eventually, all of life. They revolted against being “hemmed in” by God’s Word and decided to rely on their own intellect and interpretation of what they could view in the heavens with the naked eye and primitive telescopes.

This revolution began in the garden of Eden. It is based on man’s desire to go his own way and make his own decisions without reference to God’s Word. I wrote another article specifically on this topic. This time the rebellion against God gained momentum because it was clothed in scientific garb, which poses as truth greater than the Bible. These enlightenment men believed that the pursuit of truth and “science” had to free itself from religion and, in particular, the Bible. From that time until the present, secular scientists generally scoff at anyone who uses the Bible as a guide or reference in any sort of scientific inquiry. The age of reason pushed aside the revelation of God’s Word.

Worldly people love going their own way in contradiction to God and the Scripture. The sad thing is that, generally speaking, especially when it comes to cosmology, the church has gone along for the ride, seduced by the siren song that, using science, we can figure out things on our own, thank you. We don’t need the pre-scientific Bible to guide us. In order to camouflage what they were doing, people who say they believe the Bible is God’s Word cleverly decided that Genesis Chapter One and other verses and passages that describe the biblical earth and firmament are mere poetry, not to be taken literally. We learn the literal truth from science.

This brings us to the focus of this article. Many, probably most at this point, well-intentioned Christians have gone along with the world by rejecting Genesis Chapter One as a true account of creation and by accepting the anti-biblical heliocentric lie.

In fact, many are absolutely devoted to heliocentrism to the extent that they will attack and belittle anyone who dares challenge it. This is confusing because generally they are devoted to Christ and have a love for God’s Word, which only goes to show how strong the allure of science is. Instead of the Reformation motto of “sola scriptura,” we have adopted “sola scientia.”

Heliocentrism is an unauthorized and untrue version of God’s creation. To say that God made the cosmos after this fashion is unbiblical, untrue, and God-dishonoring and paves the way toward evolutionary astrophysics and atheism.

We should never say that God did something that he did not do. As I see it, this is akin to worshiping God in an unauthorized high place. Both were outside the bounds of Scripture and dishonored God.

In a previous article, I showed that heliocentrism is rooted in the occult and is a form of sun worship.

I realize that this is a “hard pill to swallow” for those indoctrinated in modern astrophysics. We have been taught that the Big Bang expanding universe which contains our solar system is proven science, but, sadly, it does not agree with what the Bible teaches nor has it been proved. It is mere conjecture at best.

This places us in a crisis of obedience. Will we accept what modern science teaches or what the Bible declares, no matter what it might cost us?

Adam and Eve failed their test in the garden when they believed the serpent’s lies above God’s truth. We dare not make the same mistake!

Genesis Chapter One states that God first created the earth, making it absolutely central. On the fourth day he created the sun, moon, and stars, placing them in the immense crystalline structure called the firmament. Nothing is said about other so-called planets. God only made the earth, sun, moon, and the stars. You can read more about this in another article I wrote about the Genesis testimony.

This means that the sun, for example, serves the earth, rather than the other way around. It also means that the sun runs a “circuit” around the earth (Psalm 19:6), rather than the earth revolving around the sun. Consequently, the sun is much smaller and much closer than we have been led to believe. The image on the left is a cartoon, not reality.

We must either believe the Bible and reject modern astrophysics or accept modern astrophysics and consign Genesis to the realm of scientifically meaningless “poetry.” However, once we start down the road of deciding which words of God are actually true and which can be safely disregarded, we are in dangerous territory.

There is nothing in the Genesis account that allows us to classify it as poetry, except our devotion to the supposed science behind heliocentrism.

In my opinion, this is loving a pagan philosophy more that the Bible.

When Christians put their trust in the dictates and pronouncements of modern astrophysicists instead of in God’s Word, it is a form of idolatry.

Here is a simple syllogism.

If God’s Word is true and Jesus is the truth personified (John 14:6),
Then, any time we value and honor a lie over the truth (the Bible and Jesus), we commit idolatry.
Therefore, if we believe the lie of heliocentrism instead of God’s Word, it is idolatry.

If this line of reasoning is correct, and I believe it is, then many Christians are inadvertent idolators.

One of the high places destroyed by Josiah was devoted to the sun god.

He did away with the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had appointed to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah and in the surrounding area of Jerusalem, also those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and to the moon and to the constellations and to all the host of heaven. 2 Kings 23:5 (NASB95)

He did away with the horses which the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of the LORD, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the official, which was in the precincts; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire. 2 Kings 23:11 (NASB95)

When Copernicus published his book that theorized that the sun was the focal point of supposed planetary orbits, he paid homage to the sun god.

When the United States supposedly sent astronauts to the moon, they named the entire mission after Apollo, the sun god. His horses and chariot were part of the mission logo. This is no accident. NASA’s origins were steeped in the occult, and nearly every mission or undertaking is named with pagan allusions. But that is another topic.

I realize that most of us Christians who ascribe to heliocentrism are not conscious idolators. In fact, we are repulsed by such an idea. Nevertheless, heliocentrists inadvertently honor Satan with their pagan beliefs. To claim that God created a heliocentric solar system is misguided at best. No artist would want credit for creating something that is totally contrary to his values and intent.

The Bible says that the heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament his handiwork. (Psalm 19:1) Even Christian heliocentrists are able to glorify God when they consider the heavens, but they are doing so despite the godlessness connected with Big Bang cosmology. As I wrote elsewhere, the Big Bang – Heliocentric Worldview is essentially atheistic by design. Jesus said we can know a bad tree by the fruit it produces. It is no accident that most leading proponents of modern astrophysics are atheists.

The Genesis version of cosmology requires us to recognize the handiwork of God. There is no way that we live within the protection of the firmament unless God created it that way. It could never have happened via the chaos of an explosion. Just as surely as the turtle pictured on the left did not get on top of the fence post by himself, neither did the firmament create itself.

It is extremely difficult to be an atheist when God’s true version of creation is recognized, and that is exactly why it is so important for the church to abandon pagan heliocentrism and embrace the truth.

Biblical cosmology can help people turn to God. We need to be different from the world system. We need to stand for God’s truth. The world may laugh at us for holding to our conviction that the Bible is true, but perhaps they will respect us for being steadfast to what the Bible teaches.

I think the world already laughs at us when we try to blend modern astrophysics with the Bible. They know it is a contradiction and an accommodation.

My prayer is that God will lift the veil of deception. May the Lord remove the “scales” from our eyes so that we can finally see the truth about his glorious creation and tear down the high place of heliocentrism. The good news is that the Bible is 100% trustworthy and true regarding everything it says, even cosmology. How gloriously comforting it is to know that God is looking down on us from his throne above the firmament. He is very near indeed. One day that firmament will be rolled back like a scroll, revealing Christ in all his glory. The entire earth, this terrestrial plane, shall see him all at once! Come, Lord Jesus!

Circuit Rider

My father’s mother’s father was a Methodist circuit riding pastor in north Georgia named Charles Ledford. These hardy servants of God rode horseback to circulate among the churches under their care. He and his wife, my great grandmother, Lillie, died quite young, probably due to the intense rigors of life back then in the post-civil-war South. The few photos I have of them with their daughters indicate that they lived in poverty. As a result, my grandmother, Leone, spent time in an orphanage before being adopted by the Lightfoot family. Later, of course, she married my grandfather, Pete Beck, Sr.

Circuit riders existed because there were not enough pastors for each church to have its own local preacher. Since the church buildings could not move, the circuit riders followed a defined circuit so that each church knew when he would arrive. That way the members would plan to be present when he was.

The Bible tells us that the earth is stationary and the sun rides a circuit above it.

The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. 2 Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech, nor are there words; Their voice is not heard. 4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their utterances to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun, 5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; It rejoices as a strong man to run his course. 6 Its rising is from one end of the heavens, And its circuit to the other end of them; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. Psalm 19:1–6 (NASB95)

I have been reading and studying the Bible since the Spring of 1971 and continue to discover new “nuggets” of truth in its pages. It is a book that never grows old or dull. Its depths can never be completely plumbed. Its inspired words provide life and truth to those who revere it and rely on the Holy Spirit to teach us from it.

The passage in Psalm 19 begins by informing us that the creation tells us about God and his glory.

A proper understanding of the creation provides a proper understanding of God. A skewed understanding of creation gives us a warped view of God that can produce a false understanding of who we are.

The devil loves to contradict God’s words. He did so in the Garden of Eden when he told Eve, “You will not surely die!” He does it now. Sadly, the majority of modern Christians have bought into his contradiction of scripture regarding the nature of the heavens and the earth. Modern cosmology, which originated with Copernicus, teaches us that the sun does not make a circuit above the earth, but that the earth revolves around the sun. This is no small thing. It leads us to the following conclusions.

The Bible is not always true.
The earth is not central to God’s creation.
We are under the grip of the sun’s “gravity,” which means we serve it instead of its serving us.
Eventually, heliocentrism leads to other lies – the Big Bang theory, evolution, and atheism.

This profound contradiction of God’s Word regarding the sun is defended vigorously by well-meaning believers who insist that they believe every word in the Bible, except, of course, those which contradict the heliocentric theory. Those they conveniently ignore or twist, ascribing their supposed error to the ignorance of the biblical authors, at which God winked, thus allowing untruths to fill the pages of scripture. No wonder so many have wandered away from biblical truth.

Once we say that some of God’s Word is false, all of it comes into question.

Heliocentrism teaches us that the earth is held in the iron grip of the sun’s immense “gravitational pull,” making the sun the center of things in our “solar system,” which is an infinitely small part of an ever-expanding incomprehensibly huge universe. This means that we humans dare not think of ourselves as special or central to God’s plan.

The Bible, however, teaches us that God created the earth as the center of things, a perfect enclosed habitation for mankind, above which he placed the “lights,” which serve us, much as the circuit riders served the churches under their oversight and care.

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. 17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:14–18 (NKJV)

So which is it? Does the sun serve us, as God says, as it completes its daily circuit above, or do we serve the sun by forever revolving around it as it hurtles at ridiculous speeds going who knows where? It depends on whether we believe the Bible or Copernicus, doesn’t it? Since I worship God, not Helios or any man, I say the Bible is correct. How about you?

Here Comes the Sun

Imagine, if you can, seeing light on the earth, but there are no sun, no moon, or stars. It would have to look something like photos taken on the moon during the Apollo missions – a totally black sky, yet the surface of the moon itself was lighted, even though we must admit that it had no glow as we observe from here on the earth. Instead, it looked a lot like drab cement dust on a Hollywood set, but that is another subject. A lighted world without heavenly lights was the early reality on the earth, according to the Bible, if we believe the Bible, before the fourth day of creation. God created light on the first day, but as yet there were no light producers in the sky until the fourth day. From where did this light come? We surmise that God himself was (and is) the light.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:1–5 (NASB95)

Those who do not believe that the Bible is the inspired and completely true Word of God still cannot comprehend this light and refuse to acknowledge God’s ability to shine into the darkness without the aid of the sun, moon, and stars. (2 Corinthians 4:6) Those who believe in a materialistic universe governed by mechanical laws cannot conceive of a light without a physical source; so, they believe the Genesis creation account is just another religious myth, a fairy tale. Even some Christians who profess to believe the Bible do not believe the Genesis account of creation, thus renouncing the clarion call of the Reformation – Sola Scriptura!

But those of us who believe that God’s Word is literally true, accept that the earth was a lighted world without any physical light source, even though we do not understand how it worked.

We would rather appear foolish in the eyes of men than be guilty of calling God a liar.

May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written, “THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS, AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED.” Romans 3:4 (NASB95)

Since, according to the Bible, it was not until the fourth day that God created the sun, moon, and stars and placed them in the crystalline firmament, the Big Bang theory and its corollary, the heliocentric solar system, are lies.

This places all of us who profess to believe the Bible in a crisis of faith. Do we believe the Bible is an accurate account of creation, or do we feel the need to twist its clear meaning into something that bows the knee to modern cosmological theories? Will we claim that the Bible is true, but Genesis is not scientifically true? If so, our motto should be Sciencia Prima – Science First, above the Scriptures. Will I say that the Bible contains truth without being true? What kind of satanic mischief is that? Will I call God a liar in order to appear to be wise in the world’s eyes? What god do we serve anyway? I formerly did that out of ignorance, but no more. I now boldly declare that God’s Words in the Genesis account of creation are actually true.

Once we do that, we must go back to Genesis to learn more about this sun God created. It is not the nuclear powered behemoth controlling the earth and the wandering stars (planets), threatening at any moment to engulf them in its flames. That is a satanic lie, that puts Helios (Satan) at the center of things, ruling over God’s creation. Rather, the sun is much smaller and fairly local, being situated in the firmament (Genesis 1:14-18). It follows a course over the circular plane earth, as witnessed by the scriptures. (Psalm 19:4-6) Using age-old navigation equipment called a sextant that depends on the surface of the earth being level, people estimate the sun to be approximately 30 miles in diameter and about 3000 miles distant, which gives us some idea of the extent and magnitude of the firmament, above which sits God’s throne. Crepuscular sun rays come through clouds at an angle that directs us back to the location of the sun, defying the notion that it is 93 million miles distant. If it were that far away, the rays would be parallel.

The scriptures give us another hint of the nearness and relatively small size of the sun in the following verse.

Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven, “Come, assemble for the great supper of God, Revelation 19:17 (NASB95)

Those who are embarrassed when the Bible refutes modern scientific theory will malign me for writing these things, but those who firmly adhere to God’s Word will be grateful. Which are you?
