A No-Spin Zone!

cosmologyWhat’s the big deal about biblical cosmology? Is it really that important if we believe that Genesis Chapter One is an accurate history of creation and a reliable source for understanding the design of the heavens and earth? The truth is always important in its own right, but, in this case, the nature and shape of the earth and heavens is extremely relevant because it reveals much about God to us. (Psalm 19:1 and Romans 1:20) If our perception of creation is inaccurate, our knowledge of God will be skewed, and we may fall for a whole host of deceptions.

Heliocentrism is a direct attack upon the veracity of God’s Word from Genesis to Revelation.

The enclosed cosmology described in the Bible with heaven above the firmament is described throughout the Bible. One cannot dismiss the truth about biblical cosmology without questioning the truthfulness of the entire Bible.

If we adopt a dishonest approach to interpreting Scripture to avoid looking foolish in the world’s eyes, it is dishonors God and reveals we would rather have the praise of men than God’s. Mankind’s first sin was to disbelieve and disobey God’s simple command.

Esteeming God’s Word as the highest standard of truth is part of what it means to submit to Christ’s lordship.

When we put more confidence in our own understanding or the words of men than we have in the Bible, we commit Adam’s sin all over again. Instead God wants us to…

Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:5–7 (NASB95)

Faith in God includes faith in what the Bible says about his creation.

By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible. Hebrews 11:3 (NASB95)

If we disbelieve what the Bible says, we thereby claim to be smarter than God, which is never a good move.

In addition, having a proper understanding of the heavens and earth will enhance our appreciation of the Bible’s accuracy, deepen our awareness of the Creator, and prepare us to resist end-time deception.
